I’m not a huge fan of pumpkin beer.
It’s nothing personal against pumpkins, although they might take it that way, it is 2016 after all.
The weird thing is I enjoy almost everything pumpkin, from pumpkin coffee creamer to pumpkin cheesecake, just not pumpkin beer.
I’ve had my fair share, as I make it a point to try at least one or two different brands every year.
Don’t get me wrong, there are a few I have actually enjoyed, but those are few and far between.
Maybe it’s the over-saturation of pumpkin beer on the shelves? Possibly.
It’s rather annoying to me to see these “seasonal” brews hitting stores in July/August.
That’s the wrong “season”, people.
I grabbed a single of Shipyard ‘Smashed Pumpkin’ to try.
Yes, a single. I’m not willing to commit to more than that amount of pumpkin beer.
What I didn’t take notice of was the 9% ABV on this beer.
That’s okay, I’ll just summon all the “princess power” I can muster to down this brew. I’m pretty sure She-Ra was a princess, so that’s what I’m going with here…
‘Smashed Pumpkin’ wasn’t all that bad. I’ve definitely had pumpkin beer I’ve enjoyed less than this one.
You can taste all the “standard” flavors you’d expect from the this style, and it works, for the most part.
The only real issue for me was you can taste every bit of the 9%.
That’s a deal breaker in my book.
