There was a time that people played video games in the same room with each other.
You read that correctly, THE SAME ROOM!
Times have changed though, and game playing is all done online now, but every now and then I’ll fire up a retro game system when people are over.
What’s better than retro gaming?
Just add beer to the mix. #Boom, it just got super fun!
The games listed below are just a few of my personal favorites to play while enjoying a few tasty beers with friends. They’re listed in no particular order of awesomeness, bust rest assured, they’re all awesome!
Tecmo Super Bowl (NES)
Probably the best football video game ever made. It goes well with throwing back a few beers and talking trash. If you want to get “crafty”, you can get a round robin style tournament going among your group with this gem of a game. Playing against Bo Jackson sucks, but at least you’ll have a tasty beer to console you.
Super Mario Kart (SNES)
Always a crowd favorite, this is the game that started the group racing fun. It’s not meant to be taken seriously, but get hit with a red shell and see how funny you think that is… There’s a Mario Kart Drinking Game out there, but it isn’t for the weak willed, so proceed with caution.
If you know the game, you know the code, so I won’t get into that right now. Throw back a few beers and shoot everyone and anything you see! This is definitely a fun game, right up until the person you’re playing with loses all their lives and starts stealing yours!
Mike Tyson’s Punchout (NES)
This is a game you turn on after a few beers and everyone is feeling a little feisty. You’re not playing “against” each other, but rather after each match you hand off the controller to the next player. Someone has to start, and if they get hit by “Glass Joe” at all, the rule is you have to make fun of them for the rest of the night. Most of the time you never make it to Iron Mike, but there’s a code if you want to try fighting him. Good luck with that.
Well, that’s my short list for fun retro gaming with friends while enjoying a few tasty beers.
Don’t agree? That’s okay, I don’t care.
If you think you know of better games, just throw them in the comment section, I might look.
I might not either.
