Ellicottville Fall Festival Lager

Double Nickel ‘Pilsner/Lager’

Double Nickel Brewing Company. I have yet to try a beer from this Pennsauken, NJ Brewery that I haven’t enjoyed. They’ve only been around for a couple of years now, but they’re definitely making their mark in the brewing world, so I figured I’d try their Pilsner/Lager hybrid! In a few words: Smooth and tasty. This beer doesn’t taste like the 5.6% abv it boasts, so that’s pretty dangerous, as I could throw back quite a few of these without an issue. I’m willing to take the risk. The StraightRead More

The Crazy Kegs Summer List

We here at Crazy Kegs love to try beer all year long.  Most seasons bring a beer theme and summer is no exception.  With longer, hotter days, a refreshing summer beer is much needed.  This doesn’t mean you have to drink a watered down version of your favorite beer this time of year.  What many breweries are putting out are solid, full flavored beer.  If you’re going to be out in the sun all day, you probably don’t want to drink a heavy 48 hop variety quadruple IPA with aRead More

Narragansett Lager

About a month or two ago I was browsing in the beer aisle, as I often do, looking for something new for the night. I saw of group come in and grab a couple 30-packs of Narragansett Lager. At the time, I couldn’t figure out why it sounded familiar to me, so obviously I looked it up real quick. It was Quint’s beer from Jaws! I should have realized, but it’s been quite awhile since I’ve seen that movie, so I gave myself a pass for not knowing. Even thoughRead More

Double Nickel Brewery

Double Nickel Brewery (Pennsauken, NJ) opened their doors in October 2015. Since it’s now almost February 2016, I figured I should stop slacking and get over there and try some of their brews. So I did. They feature 8 beers on tap, and I chose to go with a flight of the top 4 listed on the Beer Menu. The Pilsner 5.6%: Not too shabby. Especially for a Pilsner. I go into this style with very low expectations, but this one was a pleasant surprise. The Straight Hops: 3 out ofRead More

Blackened Voodoo Lager, Dixie Brewing Company

Blackened Voodoo Lager, Dixie Brewing Company By Chris Anderson Let me first start by saying that Blackened Voodoo Lager is a beer that I hold dear to my heart. I had my first taste of this in New Orleans in 1996 during Mardi Gras. I was visiting my good friend Rich for a week heading up to the culmination of Fat Tuesday. The day would start early and this was a great beer to start off your festivities. As you know in New Orleans, anything and everything goes and thisRead More

Abita ‘Purple Haze’

I stumbled upon this super secret Craft Beer Mix 12 pack last week, real spy type stuff, so it was super exciting. Okay, maybe it was no James Bond kinda thing, but I didn’t know what beer was included until I opened the pack when I got home. I guess I could have cheated, and opened one there to see, but that’s no fun. There was quite an interesting mix of beer, but most were between 8-10% abv, so I decided on one of the lower options. You guessed right!Read More
