Prairie Artisan Ales: Bomb
My beer boyfriend struck again and sent me this Bomb from Prairie Artisan Ales. It’s one of those beers you hear about a lot but hesitate to buy yourself because it’s not cheap. I got lucky by having it come as a gift. The little Star Wars R2D2 car was an added bonus.
Bomb is an Imperial stout aged on coffee, cacao nibs, vanilla beans, and ancho chili peppers. Those flavors might sound crazy and they are. Individually, they’re some of my favorite things, but I wasn’t sure how they would work all together. They work really well, actually.
I poured this out and was immediately hit with a whirlwind of scents that follow through to the taste. There’s intense coffee and chocolate flavors, and a bit of vanilla and toffee. The addition of the chili peppers adds just the right amount of heat to balance it all out.
At 13% ABV, you might think it’s going to knock you out of your boots. It doesn’t, it just warms you up a bit. This is a nice full bodied beer that will finish off your night nicely. If you have a chance to get this beer and you’re hesitant because of the price tag, throw caution to the wind and buy it. You won’t regret it.
