The big news in the Beer world is that New Belgium Brewing Company has finally reached The Garden State.
That’s great news indeed, as I have never had any of their beer, since I live in New Jersey. Don’t get me wrong, we get a lot of great beer here, but something new is always fun!
@CheersSJ put out a list of launch events they were running, so @CrazyKegs and I decided to go to the first one closest to us at Victory Bar & Grill in Berlin Township, NJ. We rounded up the ladies on the premise of taking them out to eat, but we really just needed someone to drive us home…
They had four New Belgium beers on tap for the event, so obviously I had to try one of each.
But where to start? That’s not really a question, I knew right away which beer I was having first.
New Belgium ‘Citradelic Tangerine IPA’
This is a fun IPA. By fun, I mean super tasty and enjoyable. The citrus flavors in this brew are delightful.
Citradelic clocks in at only 6% ABV, and it goes down quick. I would say too quickly, but that’s not really a “thing”. I immediately proclaimed this beer my winner of the night. 4 out of 5 Kegs
But wait, I have three more to try!
New Belgium ‘Hoppy Blonde’
Normally, this isn’t a style of beer I would order while I was out, but I had to try ‘Hoppy Blonde’. (It’s new to NJ, in case you forgot…)
Well, I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a nice, easy drinking brew at 5.75%, with just enough “pop” to keep you coming back for more. ‘Hoppy Blonde’ would definitely be a beer I’d enjoy outside in the Summer, but it’s seasonal, so I’ll have to settle for throwing these back in the Spring! 3 out of 5 Kegs
New Belgium ‘Fat Tire’
Of all the New Belgium beer, ‘Fat Tire’ is the one I’ve been hearing great things about. The buzz wasn’t wrong. This beer is delicious. The yummy, lingering taste it leaves in your mouth after each sip keeps you coming back for more. ‘Fat Tire’ didn’t last long in front of me. It’s an Amber Ale, and at only 5.2%, go ahead and order another one. You deserve it! 4 out of 5 Kegs
New Belgium ‘Ranger IPA’
I saved the 6.5% “Big Boy” (or “Big Girl” if you prefer) IPA for last. I drank some water first, of course, as ‘Fat Tire’ has a big taste for a little beer!
‘Ranger’ is a really good IPA. It’s hoppy, it’s bitter, it’s everything you need in this style of beer. I’d definitely pick it up to enjoy at home. Plus, I’d like to try this brew again before having three different styles of beer first. I’ll go 3 out of 5 Kegs for now, with the possibility of 4 Kegs after a second go round.
