Asheville Brewing Company “Carolina Mountain Monster”
by Chris Anderson
Well, it’s been a long time since I have sat down and wrote a beer review, but today’s your lucky day. Carolina Mountain Monster is an Imperial Stout brewed with Coffee & Vanilla. This is a big, bold, robust beer with an ABV of 12.8%, and is beautiful, just like the town of Asheville, NC where it is brewed. Rich, luscious mouth feel, just like the majestic mountains of Western North Carolina. This fantastic beer is made with locally roasted, cold steeped coffee and fresh vanilla beans, a perfect match made in heaven. If you homebrew like I do, you would be interested in knowing that Carolina Mountain Monster is made with some unusual ingredients which include, Honey Malt and Gold Naked Oats ( I said Naked) from the U.K. Who would have thought combining local ingredients along with U.K malt & oats would work so well? This beer drinks best at warmer temps, so pour a big glass and let it sit out for awhile, which will help to bring out the complex flavors. I was lucky to get one 22oz bomber of this tremendous beer, but I would definitely buy more as it would be interesting to let it sit for a year and age it.
So if you ever find yourself in Asheville, I highly recommend checking out Asheville Brewing Company, which now has 3 locations, North Asheville, Downtown, and South Asheville.
I give this brew a 4 out of 5 keg rating. Drink it up, this one’s for you!
